...where East meets West.

This is the N.W. Intersection of Yonge (pronounced as in young) & Bloor streets.. Yonge St. runs north-south, officially splitting the metropolis into east and west. Bloor St. is where the subway runs its primary east-west line. Yonge & Bloor is a major intersection that signifies the unofficial start, southbound, into the downtown core.
